Mental Health Awareness Month - May, 2016

May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and Shaolin Kung Fu Training Center is acknowledging this important issue in our communities to better our collective health. We wish for all of you to be more aware of these issues, because only then can we remain healthy and happy! We believe the only way we can do this is by increasing awareness and understanding of mental health. To do so, we have organized a few events during the month of May that we encourage you, your family, and friends to take advantage of. I would like to let you know about some of these upcoming events.

"Kung Fu for Emotions" a free workshop with Dr. Jabari Jones
On May 14th at 3:00pm for our free workshop entitled "Kung Fu for Emotions", hosted by Dr. Jabari Jones, Board Certified Psychiatrist who will be teaching a workshop here at the Shaolin Kung Fu Training Center on how to manage emotions. We can all benefit our lives and our loved ones lives by becoming more aware of our mental state of being by learning about how we experience our emotions. This is also an important opportunity for any young people in your lives, because as they grow they are learning to manage their mental health. It is an incredible opportunity for these developing minds to learn concrete methods of dealing with their emotions. In this free workshop, Dr. Jones will provide us all with the tools to use our feelings to empower us for action.

About Dr. Jabari Jones: Jabari Jones, MD is a Board Certified Psychiatrist.  His experience includes treatment and diagnosis of a wide spectrum of psychiatric conditions in acute and primary care settings.  Dr. Jones has several years of experience teaching emotional competence principles.  He is currently employed as an Attending Physician on an acute psychiatric teaching unit at Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York.

In his free time Dr. Jones practices the art of Kung Fu, enjoys reading about philosophies of ancient cultures and spending time with his Bombay cat Fozzy. 

Free Qigong's Class with Shifu Hengxin
During the month of May, the school will be allowing free admission to every Friday Qigong class. Qigong is a low impact exercise that synchronizes smooth methodical movements with your breathing. This ancient exercise has been used in the Shaolin monastery for hundreds of years as a type of moving meditation that can help clear and relax your mind. It is an ancient remedy to a modern problem of over stimulation and fast-paced lifestyles. So, refresh and reset yourself by trying Qigong! Shifu Hengxin is inviting all interested to come in and see how you can benefit mentally and physically by taking Qigong class.
